Process Hazard Analyses


Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) encompasses a variety of methods of assessing and evaluating potential hazards in a process industry, providing executives and management with information in order to make decisions to improve safety.

It is a set of organized and systematic assessments of the potential hazards associated with an industrial process. A PHA provides information intended to assist managers and employees in making decisions for improving safety and reducing the consequences of unwanted or unplanned releases of workplace risks.

Hazard scenarios caused by equipment failures, human errors and external events must be considered. Safeguards, facility siting and human factors issues should be identified and their impact on safety identified.

A PHA is directed toward analyzing potential causes and consequences of  workplace hazards and it focuses on equipment, instrumentation, utilities, human actions, and external factors that might impact the process
